All of the Usual Suspects

This work follows my ongoing theme of commenting on people living under challenging circumstances, in this case, admiring Indian history but subtly addressing ancient traditions that now feed modern social issues. It is the end product of a 2013 residency that included many days of drawing in the museum at Sanskriti Kendra, Delhi. The disparate, terracotta figures that I befriended range from miniscule votive objects to massive deities and vary in importance, caste, gender, religion and geographical backgrounds. They do, however, coexist together as one family in the same building complex - a significant example for all of us.
